The scenic English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhood consists of two adjacent subdivisions set in a pretty area of west Los Gatos not far from Quito Road and just off of Bicknell Road. The are part of the 95032 zip code. The English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhood are a unique area in a town full of distinctive tracts and subdivisions, as these two, particularly, showcase gorgeous oak trees and open space in a way that harkens back decades, before so much development was prominent here.

English Oaks

Imagine waking up to this view each morning from your home or yard! That’s the situation for many of the English Oaks residents in west Los Gatos, where 24 acres of oak trees are the common area (small HOA fee of $450 per year to maintain and preserve this exquisite California landscape).

Below please find a map with approximate boundaries of these neighborhoods. Although I studied the plat maps at length, the county does not lay out the parcels neatly tied together in subdivisions, so ascertaining the boundaries means flipping from page to page and back again. Hence my disclaimer: these boundaries are not exact.

English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhoods in Los Gats

Where is the English Oaks subdivision?

It would be easy to miss the English Oaks neighborhood of Los Gatos as it requires traveling away from the main roads.  This tidy subdivision is located generally off of Quito Road, accessed specifically from Bicknell Road and More Avenue. Streets include:

  • part of Bicknell Road
  • Shire Court
  • Chippendale Court
  • Ash Court
  • Hepplewhite Court
  • part of Montclair Road

If you drive along Montclair Road, especially, you will find lovely pockets of oak trees – they seem like a park, not part of someone’s back yard.  These are the common areas, for which homeowners pay small fees each month.  (And well worth it!  They are lovely!)

The Oakwood subdivision

A smaller subdivision, but with equally large lots and houses, Oakwood lines part of Bicknell toward the end of the road and all of Smith Creek Drive.

What are houses like in the English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhood of Los Gatos?

In the English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhood, houses range in square footage from about 2000 to 3000 SF in most cases, though some are larger than 4000.   Lot sizes generally around around 1/3 of an acre, but again there’s a range from a low of 8000 SF to about a 1/2 acre, or 20,000 SF lot.

The homes are younger by Silicon Valley standards, with the newest ones being about 25 years old and the oldest about 33 years old or so.

Some have lovely valley views or views of the hills or oak groves.

What schools serve these areas?

This part of town is part of the Campbell Union High School District and the Campbell Union School District:

Marshall Lane Elementary School in Saratoga
Rolling Hills Middle School in Campbell (it has a Los Gatos mailing address)
Westmont High School in Campbell

These areas are popular for many reasons: the homes are all nicely kept up, the streets are wide, lots are big, homes are of a good size, and there are scenic views in many, many places – if not all.  It’s also a very convenient area for people commuting to Sunnyvale and Cupertino as Quito Road becomes Lawrence Expressway with a straight shot toward places like National Semiconductor.

Are there any special concerns in this area?

The English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhood is a hilly, woodsy area. It may be in a local or county fire zone, but it is not in the Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone as mapped by CalFire. Between the hills and the trees, both drainage issues and fire issues should be taken very seriously. (Please check our article on the Valley of Heart’s Delight blog regarding buying homes in hillside areas.)

What do homes cost in the English Oaks and Oakwood neighborhood of Los Gatos?

Prices vary with the home size, lot size, view, slope, and other factors. Prices are upward of $2 million even for the smallest homes and lots, if they are nicely maintained, and a price of $3 – $4 million is not unusual when the market is hot and the home is turnkey.  A very thoroughly remodeled property on a big lot, with an especially good view, could easily run at the high end of that range – or more.

This is not a large area, but the listings which are currently available, pending, or sold & closed in the last 24 months in this approximate area will show up here (if they were on the MLS, and most are):
