On Saturday, June 10, 2023, the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad (which runs from Oak Meadow Park through part of Vasona Lake County Park in Los Gatos) is hosting a fun, affordable pancake breakfast from 8:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.
Flapjacks & Railroad Tracks Food
The website states:
There are two options for breakfast: Regular Breakfast includes 3 large pancakes & 2 sausage links. Small Breakfast includes 1 large pancake & 2 sausage links. A la cart items will also be available.
Tickets for the train are at the regular pricing. It’s a great fundraiser to support the small gauge railroad, and kick off the summer schedule for both the train and carousel.
In addition, the train and carousel will be open bright and early. Rides will begin at 8:00am and run until 4:30pm. Standard ticket pricing applies.
For more information and details, please have a look at the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad website.
If you’re on Facebook, find and “like” the Facebook page for the BJWRR.

End of Summer Night Ride and Pasta Dinner
by Mary Pope-Handy | Jul 30, 2022 | Events
Each August, the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad and W.E. “Bill” Mason Carousel host their End of Summer Night Ride, a pasta dinner fundraiser!
End of Summer Night Ride details
This year, the event will be held Sunday on Aug 14, 2022 from 5:30 PM – 8:30 PM.
At the very end of the summer season, the railroad and carousel hold their second major fundraiser of the year – the End of Summer Night Ride and Pasta Dinner. Evening activities begin at 5:30pm, and the last train departs at 8:30pm. You can either purchase one combo train and carousel ticket, for one ride on each, at $7, or get the unlimited pass (sold per person) and ride as many times as you want all evening for $20 per person.
Remember that children 2 and under ride free with paying adult.
Dinner is served from 6-8pm, and a donation (amount not currently listed, it was $10 a few years ago) will get you a plate piled high with spaghetti and meat sauce, a garden salad or caprese, and garlic bread. Vegetarian options are available, and beverages are an extra fee (beer and wine will be available for purchase). Additional donations are always welcome.

Many Los Gatos school children are either back in school or shortly will be back in the classroom. Technically, summer lasts almost another month, but the unofficial end of the season usually coincides with the academic schedule or Labor Day rather than the actual calendar date.
It’s been a very cool summer, generally, one that didn’t require a lot of air conditioning for most of us. Many days it felt more like spring than summer. My family and I just returned from a vacation to San Diego (which I highly recommend!), where we heard it was the coldest summer in 70 years. Sounds like all of California had an extra mild season!
There’s still a little summer left to be enjoyed, though! If you have worked and busied yourself and wondering if you totally missed the boat on summer fun, it’s time to take a break and sneak in some helpful R & R.
Here in town, you can enjoy several great “end of summer” events, several of which are no-cost:
- There are 2 more afternoons of Music in the Park and one more Jazz in the Plazz. (Dates are Aug 22, 25 and 29 – check link above for details.)
- Visit Oak Meadow Park on Saturday, Aug 28th for the “End of Summer Night Ride” with a pasta dinner, carousel rides and a train ride at the Billy Jones Wildcat Railroad.
- Labor Day plans? Calvary Church of Los Gatos invites you to their Chill & Grill on Monday, Sept 6th from 11-3 (no admission fee – this sounds like a great event, please check via the link!).
- On September 11th there’s Claws for a Cause at C Hannegan’s.
Enjoy the end of summer!
