Garden Against Fire!

Landscaping for Wildfire ProtectionThe Los Gatos Library will host an online class, Landscaping for Wildfire Protection

Coming up Thursday, September 24th from 6-7pm Pacific.

Does your garden fight fires? With fire season growing longer and fiercer each year with devastating losses, you might be wondering what you can do to lower risks and protect your property against wildfires. Especially if you live near one of the Bay Area’s beautiful greenspaces! Join the Los Gatos Library with speaker Barbara Hunt, UC Master Gardeners of Santa Clara County, to learn about how wildfires spread and how to landscape to protect your home, from hardscapes to fire-resistant plants. This is a free lecture aimed at California homeowners but open to all.

For more information and the Zoom link, please view the event page.

Join the event on Facebook and set a reminder.

Los Gatos Library Grand Opening Photo Slideshow

February 15, 2012

Please enjoy some photos I took last Saturday and Sunday. I am sorry that I didn’t get everyone. It was a great celebration, it’s a fabulous library. Many thanks to all who helped to make it possible! If you haven’t stopped by yet, the new pubic library in Los Gatos is the gem of the town!

Update: The slideshow has now been replaced with a gallery view, so feel free to view the images below at your leisure!

Grand Opening of New Los Gatos Public Library Saturday Feb 11, 2012

January 24, 2012

Love the new Los Gatos LibraryThings are winding to a close with the transition from the old Los Gatos Public Library to the newly constructed one. If you drive over to the area, you’ll see the construction zone taping and fences still in place (“hard hat area” advisories present but people wandering about without hard hats). Inside, the lights are on and people are working hard to set the books into place for the grand opening, which will be February 11th, 2012, at 10am and with events continuing through the weekend.

All of the events for the Los Gatos Library’s grand opening are on the town’s website.

Los Gatos Library Groundbreaking Ceremony

June 21, 2010

Groundbreaking for the new Los Gatos libraryToday the townsfolk of Los Gatos broke ground for what will be a beautiful and wonderfully useful library.  A wide variety of people were in attendance, including residents (young and old) and neighbors of the town, people working on this project for us, town employees, and some members of the media.  Cameras were flashing nonstop.

The ceremony was MC’d by Kim Vestal, who’s been a longstanding south bay radio personality and Los Gatos resident.  She did a fabulus, fun job.  Also at the microphone were Pamela Jacobs, the Assistant Town Manager; Lyn Dougherty, the Library Board Chair; Carol Hamilton, President of Friends; Diane McNutt, Mayor of Los Gatos; Parthenia Hicks, Los Gatos Poet Laureate, who recited her poem for the occassion, “The Ground Breaks Open“. Special kudos to Parissa Koo, a Los Gatos High School student, who sang for us and who appears to be a true “rising star”.  Also kudos to the two Los Gatos High School cellists who performed prior to anyone speaking and to the Los Gatos High School Jazz Combo, which provided music for the groundbreaking.

If you wanted to attend but weren’t able to do so, here’s a pdf file of the program that was handed out today (along with a bookmark).  I took a few photos with my blackberry – hope you enjoy them. (You can track the library’s progress by clicking to view the town’s webcam here.) There are more photos at the end of the show – just click on the link to view them!
